It happens to me all the time. And even after being asked it on a regular basis for over 25 years it still never ceases to amaze me! For some reason, people think that what I do has an inbuilt pricelist …
Look, say you sell cars. How often do people ask you ‘How much do cars cost?’.
I wonder whether estate agents get asked all the time how much houses cost?
Or even artists asked how much their paintings cost?
So why do people keep asking me how much do films cost? It almost the first question once you get into conversation.
So tonight I’m going to an event with lots of networking and we’ll see what happens. I’ll finish the rest of this blog in a few days
…(a few days later….)
Inevitably, I have been asked the question quite a few times since last I wrote in this space. And giving the same smartarse reply doesn’t normally win friends (or business.)
So please – pity the poor director / camera-person / producer and rather than ask THAT question, just say ‘Hasn’t the weather been nice today?’ You’re bound to get a much more polite answer!
To look at it another way, take a look at this ad from 2014. Admittedly it was transmitted in the Superbowl (never a cheap media environment) but consider its cost – at a cool $12m according to the internet (so it must be true.)
However for something slightly more cost-effective you could always give me a call …
