In the dark days of winter it’s often difficult to imagine the balmy days of summer. But imagine I’ve had to recently, planning the first week of my NEW Film Summer School.

For the past few years I’ve been running a successful film summer school at Spirit Studios (formerly SSR) in Manchester. But as Spirit has recently stopped teaching film and won’t run a film summer school this year, I’ve set up my own:

If you’re interested in film and video – or more to the point, know someone that is – it might be the perfect start for you! Because you can walk in on a Monday morning knowing very little and walk out on Friday afternoon clutching a USB stick on which there’s a film that you contributed to making!

Whether you’re just starting out in the industry, a photographer moving into video, a would-be YouTuber or just have a personal passion for film and want to learn more, this course could be worth your consideration – and I promise, will be a lot of fun!

Taught by me with a guest lecturer or two (yet to be confirmed) and backed by the Institute of Videography I’ve tried to condense down everything I’ve learnt over 25+ years in the film business into the absolute essentials and packaged it up into a high-intensity week of theory and practical work.

Quality kit is supplied although we encourage students to bring their own if they have it.

The school runs from 10.00 am to 4.45 pm Monday to Friday and will be held at PHA’s studio in Ardwick Green, Manchester. That’s just around the corner from Spirit Studios and easy walking distance to public transport and Piccadilly Station.  And as I’m only taking around twelve people per week, there will be plenty of opportunity for 1:1 learning.

It starts 27 July and the website is open for bookings now. Minimum age for students is 16 and I hold an enhanced DBS. (Note: There’s no maximum age and I’ve enjoyed having several retired people on courses over the years!)

There’s an Early bird rate for bookings made before 15 June and I don’t even want all the money now. Just a £100.00 + VAT deposit secures a place, with the rest payable a few weeks before the course starts.

I’ve had great feedback from my classes at Spirit over the years so I reckon it’ll book up fairly quickly once the word is out.

If you want any more information, please message me here and I’ll be happy to tell you more. Here’s the website again::
